Baby its cold

We got a dusting of snow over night. It came with wind, rain, thunder and hail this morning. Roads are slick and its cold. The schools got a 2 hour delay today. Wish they would of just closed them, it throws the kids off for the day.

Last night was the Del Norte Band winter concert. They performed with the school PAPA and they all sounded great. Did not get to video tape (batteries ran out) so I finally got to enjoy the concert.

Take care and keep warm,

Catching up with pictures

For Cub Scouts we went to the Bosque del Apache down near Socorro New Mexico. If you have not been there you need to go when the cranes and other birds come in. It is awesome. OK for some reason I can't get the pictures in order.
So you have evening to daylight.

All the black dots on the horizon are birds coming in.

No sewing has been done this month. Starting on Thanksgiving weekend we have been working the fundraiser everyday for band. We wrap gifts at Borders Bookstore for donations. I am the organizer and have two stores, so far it is going slow, hope things pick up.

WOW its been a long time

Wow, I can't believe its been so long from the last post. Time flies when your busy. What has been going on:

Went to Taos for one day to turn the pilot on the heater so pipes don't freeze. The temps have been getting low. I also got to pick some apples and still trying to fry and freeze them.

Went to Las Cruces for the Tournament of the Bands and got to see my three older kids perform in one day. It was cold, but worth it. I got to see Brian play for the first time live.

We got 2 new students in class and they are ED and driving us nuts.

Sold goodies for Girl Scouts at the Lego Robotic competition.

Ran a booth for my sewing group at the church ministry.

Cub Scout stuff and Boy Scout stuff were done.

Had yesterday off to relax, but landed up cleaning my sewing area, then my closet, then the bath rooms and kitchen. Also, cleaned the garage and did laundry. Things I just could not get too. Now that things are clean I need a day to relax.

Here is a picture of Brian performing for NMSU Pride Marching Band. I think its a cool picture.

Off to work. Enjoy your day.

Marching Band POB

Hi its Emily!!

I know I haven't posted in a long long time but I have been so busy with band rehearsal. Today was POB with stands for Pageant of Bands. Our marching band has been putting a lot of long hours of practice for this competition, and 2 other competitions that will be coming up. We performed our marching show at Wilson stadium and were judged. It wasn't our best performance because 2 people fell, one person sprained is ankle and one the the flute players had an asthma attack but we were able to keep together. Drum line was able to do most of our stuff pretty well today. After our performance we watched the larger schools perform. Then finally we got to the awards ceremony. In our division we won 2nd place, best percussion, best woodwinds and the peoples choice award. We were all so happy. But the best part was after we looked at the total score for all the divisions put together we found out that our percussion group came in 2nd place! Today was a victorious day for marching band. Above is a picture of the 4 trophies we got.

Why I Went Late to Work on Thursday

Ok, these are out of order, but its Balloon Fiesta time in Albuquerque and you never know where a balloon is going to land.

Not the Pepsi, but the other balloon landed on our street and blocked my drive way. Yes, I could of gotten out (they offered to move the balloon before deflating it), but I said "no". Matthew has never put up a balloon and this was an awesome experience I could not pass.

It was right in front of the house, so being the good mama I am (ha ha) I let him help. And went to work/school late. I just could not pass this up, Matthew learned a lot, he asked questions, got in the basket, helped deflate the balloon, and the pilot showed him everything to do with ballooning. We had a great time. He learned more in that hour than he learned in the whole two weeks they have been studying balloons in school.

This morning we went to breakfast with the drumline (they have Pageant of the Bands today) at 6 am then Matthew and I went and watched the balloons launch. It was a very beautiful morning for them to go up. The ski was filled with color full balloons. Pictures to come later.

Cub Scout Trip

Here are some pictures of the Cub Scout Field Trip.

Hand washing clothes.

Making wine. He said the grapes were cold.

Grinding apples for apple cider.

Pressing the apples.
The cider was good. A lot of hard work on Matthew's part.

October update

Here we are October. Man has the time passed fast. The weather is cooler and trees are changing color. The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is among us. The skies are filled with hot air Balloons. It is so beautiful here in New Mexico.

Homecoming for DN came and went, so did the UNM/NMSU football game. Was busy with other things life had in store and missed both games. Missed watching all four kids perform in the half time shows. But, I had all my kids plus more home on Sunday even if it was only for a few hours.

OK, I did something I said I did not want to do. But, to save the cub scout program at our school, where Matt is a Bear Cub, I signed on as a leader. The other leader stepped down for personal family reasons and I could not sit and watch the Bear Scouts (boys) be put on hold. So I am now a Bear Cub Scout Leader.

Yesterday we went on a field trip to El Rancho De Las Golondrinas. A Spanish Colonial Living Museum. It was a great trip, but at the same time I was in shock. Most of the boys did not know what a live sheep, donkey, cow or chicken looked like. Conection between picuters and live animals did not click.

They were amazed at where corn, pumpkins, sugar and chili came from. The reaction to how tortillas are made was a shock and where apples came from was more of a shocker to them (this one was the shocker). Apples come on trees? That is what they asked. They all thought they came from the grocery store in plastic containers. Most boys and dads picked apples for the first time.

Yes, I am using the word "shock" alot. I just don't know how else to discribe it. These boys and dads where clue less as to where their food comes from.

We also pressed apples in to cider, made tortillas, roasted chili, tasted homemade butter and jams, carded and died wool, stomped grapes for wine and saw lots of farm animals. I was amazed that some of dads were like the boys, they did not know where food came from or were amazed at the animals for they had not seen live farm animals. We missed a lot of the museum because we had to go slow and explain things over and over. The boys and dads had a lot of questions.

I was so proud of my son Matthew for knowing all this. He was able to answer questions and help me inform the boys and their dads. I am glad he knows where his food comes from and how to turn grain to flour to bread or tortillas. He knows how to shuck corn, pick pumpkins, roast chili, make butter. He also know his animals and how to act around them. The group was amazed at how he could do things naturally. Like I said I was one proud mama.

Will post picture in a few. I used Emily's camera and don't know how to down load the pictures.

Long Week

Here is a picture of Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. This was taken the end of May when we went on our Girl Scout Trip. All the dots are Girl Scouts from NM. One is my daughter Emily.

It has been a long week and it is only Wednesday. Over the weekend I was real sick due to a reaction to the medication from my surgery and today I am in pain. I am sewing and did finish a dress, I just need to take pictures.
My prayers to all who are sick.

band

Hi! This school year has started off great. Our first football game for Del Norte was last night. It was also my first band performance. And get this... Del Norte won. It was the most excting home game in 3 years. It was 21 to 0 and del norte was losing and then we shot up and won 28 to 21!! It was exctiing and playing with the band was awesome. Other then that things have been going well. My moms surgery went well but she had a real bad allergic reaction to the medicane they gave her. She is feeling a bit better now but since she cant take her medicane anymore she is in pain where they did the surgery. Hopefully we can help her feel better soon.
Brian is homesick and so we hope to see him soon. The house is a lot different with him gone. Well I better go. I have tons of homework.

Catching up

Pictures from my mother-in-laws house.

Had the surgery on Wednesday morning, everything went well. They took 1/2 the wisdom tooth out, the rest is fused to my jaw bone. So it stays that way for now. They will have to do the other side, but the doctor wants to wait an year so I can completely recover from this surgery. I am not is a lot of pain, I was yesterday and made the mistake of taking the pain killer they gave me. Landed up sicker with that then the surgery it self. Today I am sore, but I feel good. Going to roast chile, make pinto beans for the freezer and bake some bread, as soon as I get Matthew to school.

Checking In

School has stated, I have a good class they are very low academically, but are quiet and they try hard (no behavioral problems this year). Will take a while to get everyone into a routine. We have 3 girls, that's a first. I am so used to boys in Special Ed.

Now for the bad news, I stated work and already I have to take a week off . I have had an on/off tooth ache for about two weeks so I went to the dentist. My bottom wisdom teeth are trying to grow (pop out) and one is infected deep in the root area (not the roots, just the area) so I am on antibiotics. The wisdom teeth are also pushing all my other teeth forward, no wonder its been hard to floss. So within the next 10 days I have to have them surgically removed. The x-rays also show a dark area so they are also going to explore that area. Not only is going to hurt, but its going to cost.

Other news: Brian is doing great. He is taking 200 level classes (sophomore classes). Hope he can keep it up. Kevin and Emily had a good day at high school and yes they got homework. Matthew's class is huge. Its two teachers team teaching and they have a total of 47 kids. Whoa, that's a lot. He also got homework. Lunch and bells were a problem today, hope they get fixed.

End of Summer and Sewing

Summer is over, I have spent the past two days registering kids for college and high school. I go back to work on Thursday which is too soon in my book. I did not get to do much of what I wanted to do this summer. I really wanted to sew a lot more for my Sewing Club, but the patterns I got months ago still sit uncut.

Emily is working hard on her Silver Award for Girl Scouts and Kevin should be starting his Eagle project soon. So a lot is going on. Plus, Cub Scouts, band and school are starting up. Its going to be busy and expensive the next 5 months.

Here is a fleece blanket I made from scraps I had left over from my after school sewing club, it measures 39" x31".

And this little dress is a combination of patters. I got the fabric from a garage sale, its so cute.

Well thats it for now,

Summer ending

Brian left to college. It was exciting to see his new home and the campus but also pretty sad to see him leave. But he seems to be having a good time in Las cruses except he hates the heat over there. Saturday me and Kevin did a fundraiser marchathon for band. We marched 7 miles in about 3 hours. The drums were super heavy to carry and it hurt my back and shoulders very much but it was also fun to play cadences and to be with the drumline. Our parent concert is wednesday and I cant wait becausI think our show is pretty crazy and bizzare but also cool and a fun show. Well high school starts Friday and I cant wait!

NMSU

Well we are back home minus one kid. Here is where he is living till December. I did not get any pictures of the inside. We were rushed as Mr. Brian had his first drum line practice. He is playing snare for NMSU Pride Marching Band.

The bottom pictures show Mr. Brian going to practice, this will be his second home. Where he can play drums all day and night and not get told "keep it down, people are trying to relax."

Here are my kids, before we said good bye. Angie (Brian's girl friend), Brian, Kevin, Emily and the little one Matthew. Brian, Kevin, and Emily all play drums. Angie plays the saxophone.

My Baby, can't believe he is in college. I still remember bringing him home from the hospital when he was born. Where has the time gone.

Fustration

Last night I ran out of white thread in the spool. I have some in the cone, but it won't work on my machine. I also broke 2 needles sewing fleece (only 2 layers). So I quit sewing. I will do embroidery instead this week.
Would you believe we take Brian to college on Tuesday. Mixed emotions here. No wonder I can't relax.

Graduation Party

Brian the graduate.

Were up in Taos for Brian's graduation party and was it fun. A lot of food and family (some work), but it was great to be with my mom and sisters. The kids had so much fun with their cousins they did not want to come back home.

NO sewing

Its been a busy week so I have done nothing, but drive people around. We leave in the morning to Taos for Brian's graduation party. Hope I have enough food and invited everyone that I needed to. Its been a very stressful week hope next week gets better, never mind it won't, Brian leaves soon so no stress free days anymore. I don't know what else he needs till we get there.

Kevin & Emily have been at band camp working hard. They come home so tired.

Hoping for a good weekend.

Boy am I tired. In band camp the sun really gets to you haha. Mr. O made us do tons of running and pushups and 100 jumping jacks. Well thats not to bad, its actually easier then it sounds. But the hardest part is standing. The drumline stands up almost the whole day, we only sit for breaks and lunch. Its not to bad. I actually really like being on the drumline because we are unique and everyone respects us. Its funny because when we walk back to the band room for lunch everyone stays out of our way and lets us go first. The rule is, the drumline doesnt get in the way of people, people get in the way of us. I like high school band lots more then middle school band because everyone is pretty much friends with everyone else so there isnt to many arguements............yet =P Anyway I better go practice for tomorrow. Wish us luck, we are trying to get our show finished to perfection as soon as possible. Oh by the way in our show the drumline doesnt just play the drums, we have to play kazzoos and dress up as cowboys and gargle with water and all sorts of crazy stuff. This years show is gonna be pretty cool in a unique crazy fun kinda way haha

Bye,
Em

Two UFO's completed

These pictures are out of order, but you get the picture of what UFO's have been completed.

Here is the backing of the quilt below that has taken me 2 - 3 years to complete. Most of the problem was not finding a backing I liked. I finally found this one at a garage sale a few weeks back. I really liked it for this project.

And here is the quilt top. I tried to make it longer, but things did not work out so it is now a lap quilt. M fits perfect under it. E has been laying on my bed under this and reading. B is threating to take it with him to college. K said no way its will be perfect on his bed this winter. Guess I need to make 3 more. Didn't I say I won't make another quilt??

We were in Taos over the weekend. It was great to see family, but was "sweet -N- sour" trip. Only the younger ones and I went the older boys went with their dad to Las Cruces.
