My hand at quilting

Here is a doll quilt I made with strips of red I got from Sewing Club. Not too bad, but not good either.

I love to stitch and have been working on blue work snowmen for a while. I am putting them in a quilt, but there are problems. Not enough of the snow flake fabrics and some how its coming out wider than I wanted it to. Not sure what to do yet, will look at it when I am not so tired. I am not a quilter but am trying (learning).

We have had these two visiters in our tree this week. I know Emily researched them, but I can't remember what it is. It is part of the wasp family.

Work has been crazy. I know as a EA I am supposed to be flexible, but its crazy. The bell rings at 7:55 am and I have had to go to lunch as early as 8:30 am just to fit in the kids schedules. Having kinder and 1st grade in one class with separate schedules is crazy. I get out of work by 3:00 pm but am so tired to do anything fun. Hoping things settle down soon.

Too much rambling; so everyone have a great weekend.

Too all of you in the path of Irene, stay safe.

Take care,

Erlinda

A lot of changes going on here

WOW! I can't believe all the changes here. Both my boys have left to NMSU for college. So I am down to 2 kids at home. That's a big change.

This is where my oldest will be living. Apartments at NMSU.

These are the dorms my second son will be living at.

It is soo empty here. Yes, Emily and Matthew are here, but Emily does not come home till after 5 p.m. and Matthew is in the 5th grade and has had a lot of homework.

Matthew's & my hours at school/work changed to 7:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m. which is so nice. Matthew gets his homework done before 5 p.m. and has all evening to full around (play). I still have not settled on a schedule for me, with homework (Matthew), housework, dinner and picking up Emily. And Scout meetings have started for adult leaders (yes, I am a Assistant Webelos leader). Matthew's meeting start next week. Hope to find time for myself soon. I really need to sew (de-stress).

At work, its crazy. We have kinder and 1st grade and it is so confusing on who needs to be where and when (especially with OT/PT/APE and all the other general ed. pull outs. Special Ed. buses are still not running so I have to go early to meet one student while the other EA and teache go meet the other kiddos. And we have a very challenging little kinder kiddo (attitude wise) thats making the days long and hard. I (we) have been eating on the run or with the kids. We are short on duty teachers and it makes life hard, especially when no one wants to help with my special ed. kids. Who are so good, just a little slow. So I have a long duty for lunch/recess, and its been hot here.

OK, enough talking about work and as for the boys (I miss them). Well I hope to have some sewing for next time.

Take care,

Erlinda

My sewing friends are lonely

My sewing friends, given to me by my mom.

My sewing friends are so lonely. I have not sewed a thing. I am filling in for a co-worker for summer school, helping Emily get her Girl Scout camp going, having graduation parties, rearranging the house, getting boys ready to leave to collage, getting ready for school/work to start, tutoring little girls and being hot all the time. Plus all the house hold chores.

Don't know when I will be back.

Take care,

Erlinda

Sewing for the Christmas doll

Every doll needs a swim suit. I cut down an old swim suit and made this for "Dolly". I had never worked with this kind of fabric before and found it both easy and hard. You really need a serger (or is that just me?). It went together real easy. I am not sure if I would make one for anyone larger than a doll.

Here "Dolly" is in her swim suit cover.

Here she is modeling her swim suit.

Another picture of her.

I was told she now needs sandals, a towel and a beach bag. Mmmmm.... we will have to see. Things are getting busy here with Scouts and sports, so time will be shorter.

I named her "Dolly" till she gets a new owner to give her a proper name. I think it fits for now.

Have a great weekend.

Take care,

Erlinda

July fun

I tried to grow tomatoes, but a little bunny and the basketball were against me. I got this one and his brother who is still very green.

A picture of the Sandia Mountains before the fireworks show.

A concert by Casey James (American Idol). This was cool, he was good.
As for the fire work show, they were short and started a fire near the launch site, fire was exciting.

Red sun, due to smoke in the sky from the "Las Conchas fire", near Los Alamos.

Berries from my father-in-laws tree in Taos. Boy were they good. Reminded me of my childhood at my grandparents house in Talpa.

No sewing has been done, it has been so hot here and I had a sinus infection with a bad headache. It finally looks like it going away.

Take care,

Erlinda

A Littel sewing for the BH home

A little sewing for the BH house. Mostly girl things for I have no fabric for boys. I really need to break the rules and go buy some. I am also tired of working with scraps. I know, I know that is what the sewing group is about, but still, I want to pick the yards of fabric.

A simple dress size 3.

A 2 tiered skirt, size 5.

A simple size 5 skirt.

A top and shorts, size 5.

A apron, small size.

Not much sewing lately. I am not sure where the weeks have been going. I am still going through things, trying to de-clutter this house. Having the boys kind of getting ready for school in the fall so I can see what they need. This past weekend we went to Las Cruces for Kevin's orientation/registration and saw what his dorm room looks like. I am not impressed. The University did a sorry job last weekend. Not much information was given to the parents, lucky I already know what to expect with Brian being there.

Today it is strange outside, everything looks yellow. There is a smokey haze outside and the smell of smoke. There are a number of fires burning here in New Mexico, the biggest is near Los Alamos where the National Labs are.

We need rain.

Everyone have a wonderful and safe 4th of July.

Take Care,

Erlinda

This girl is tired

She is ready for bed. I had her trying on clothes all morning so I could get a picture of her in all of the outfits I have made. She (we) are getting ready for Christmas. She will be going to live with some lucky girl who unfortunately will be at the BH homeless shelter in December.

I still want a few more items of clothing made and a bag in which the clothing plus the doll will fit into. Easy to carry.

Robe

Quilt and pillow.

Two pairs of pants and a swim suit cover. I have no idea what swim suit material is so I will be going to Saver's to look for a girls swim suit to cut down. I will also look for another doll.

Shorts and a flare top.

Her night gown. It looks big (will look closely at that)

A summer dress plus a bag. I added a flower on the bag (after the pictures were taken).

An apron so she could cook.

Pants and top for school. (backpack will not be going). I need to copy it.

Ready for winter in a pink coat and hat.

I got the doll at Saver's sometime ago and used her as a model for clothing I have made for dolls at school (did not get pictures). I hope to find more doll to make clothing for and give to the homeless kids. I also love to make doll clothes, it takes very little material. Which I have a lot of.

This is a pictures of the fire near Santa Fe, NM.

This is a pillow I made Matthew to use in the car. It is made from one of his old T-shirts.

He loves Star Wars.

The T-shirt I used.

I hope blogger posts this correctly. I have not had good luck with it in the past when posting a lot of pictures.

Take Care,

Erlinda
